Private equity is at the heart of the new boom, with the industry's happiest hunting ground - the retail sector - generating over $US21 billion ($28 billion) of the $US115 billion of deals. The largest retail deal by far was Kohlberg Kravis Roberts-led bid for Coles Myer.
