The investment opportunities in India have increased Turkish investment firms appetites. Many leading companies in the international market also consider India a priority when it comes to their investments, due to the rapid growth of the country's economy.

One of the world's largest telecom operators, Vodafone, chose to merge with the Indian market in order to extend its network, and so did the computer giant, Dell. Turkish companies did not fail to notice these developments. Not only the large Turkish investment groups took note of this, but also small and medium enterprises (SME) and even investors who want to start from scratch are looking to India.

Just as the Boydak and Ülker Groups began to explore the Indian market, a furniture manufacturer from Ankara is opening a sofa bed factory in India. A Bartın based firm is on the move to establish a milk and milk products factory in India. An entrepreneur from Ankara, Sincan, is working on starting a chain-restaurant business.

Mehmet Gül and his four partners opened a Turkish restaurant in Hyderabad on Jan. 20 of this year. The Mediterranean Restaurant has a 150-person capacity and employs 30 people. Gül said a second restaurant is on the way. “We are the first Turkish investors in our sector. Our target is at least six restaurants located in five of the largest Indian cities,” said Gül.

Hasan Karakaya and Erkan Karakaya, brothers who used to be customs brokers in Turkey, are now opening their third factory in India. “We are producing textile accessories at the Ceren Impex Company we founded. Our investments in India will not be limited to that and a new factory to produce women and children's clothing will be added,” said Hasan Karakaya, “There is a future here. I am glad that my family came to India.”

“In previous years only 50 to 60 Turkish businessmen were knocking at our door. That number has boomed lately and we will host more than 1,000 Turkish businessmen in India,” said Ahmet Kaplan, the owner of an advisory office in the capital New Delhi who has been serving newcomers for the past 10 years.
